It's nothing new to note that we are living in a mass-media world with the internet. The fact that a portion of this class is web-based is an obvious example. Video art and all art has been affected by the spread of the internet.
Building off of Prof. Villalobos's post about Nam June Paik, in the link is a blog post noting how the traditional art world, museums, and artists are finding their way in this new space. The post is a few years dated, but it it's a good starting point to the question of how art can exist in a world where Andy Warhol's saying, "...everyone will have fifteen minutes of fame..." is already old news.
